Who is not a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
If the nose is still growing, if the wish asks for a face that is not yours, or if the skin and support do not allow the requested change, that is said openly. Smoking, medicines that affect healing and previous procedures enter the assessment. If the plan is not in your interest, the examination stops there.
Growth, skin and anatomy
A nose that is still growing is not for the procedure. In younger people one waits for facial growth to settle. That is not a formality: an early cut on a growing nose can leave a shape that later does not sit in a face that is still changing.
Skin and support decide how much may be touched. Very thick skin hides a small change. Very thin skin shows every edge. If the wish asks for a cut the tissue will not carry, the plan is changed or the procedure is not done. That is not a refusal out of whim. It is the limit of the anatomy.
A previous procedure enters the same assessment. Revision is not for every dissatisfied nose and not for a nose that is still changing shape. As a rule one waits at least a year, unless breathing or a complication require an earlier examination.
Expectation, smoking and someone else’s nose
Someone else’s nose from a social network, zero risk, or “just a little” with a large change are not a plan. If the only aim is to please someone else, the examination should catch that. A computer simulation and a filter are not the basis of the decision.
Smoking slows healing. Medicines that affect blood and healing enter the conversation before the date, not in the corridor. Active inflammation, an unrealistic wish or unstable motivation are reasons not to operate now.
What the examination then does
The examination lasts about 45 minutes. At the end you know whether the procedure is for you. If it is not, you hear why and what the next step is — waiting for growth, treating the lining, stopping smoking, or not going to surgery at all.
Risks exist: bleeding, infection, asymmetry, harder breathing, a scar, a later correction. They are not common in a severe form, but they are not zero either. At the consultation they are named for your case. If after that the plan is not in your interest, the examination stops there.

Can one become a candidate later?
Yes, if the reason is growth, inflammation, smoking or disorder of the lining. Then one waits and looks again. If the reason is anatomy or a wish the tissue will not carry, the procedure is still not in your interest.
Is a video call enough for the decision?
