Common question

When can I wear glasses again after rhinoplasty?

Glasses must not sit on a freshly changed bridge. A desk rhythm after the splint comes off is often possible only if you do not need a frame on the nose. A light frame comes later, with care. Contact lenses are usually allowed earlier.

Why the bridge does not carry a frame at once

The procedure changes the bone and cartilage of the bridge. A frame that sits on that bridge presses tissue that is still healing. Pressure can keep swelling, shift an early shape or leave a mark. So the rule is not “as soon as the splint comes off”, but when the surgeon says the bridge may carry weight.

A heavy frame and a narrow bridge wait longer than a light one. Sunglasses are not an exception — they sit in the same place. If work requires vision correction, plan lenses before the date, not after.

A frame that sat perfectly before the procedure may sit differently after the bridge is changed. A new fitting at the optician comes only when the surgeon allows weight on the nose, not in the week the splint comes off.

Lenses, a light frame and the desk

Contact lenses are usually allowed earlier than a frame, once the eye and face allow a lens to go in without rubbing the nose. That is not permission for glasses. It is a temporary way to see at work.

A light frame comes later, with care, and only if it is not pushed into the bridge. Some people wear a frame on the forehead or on pads that span the nose — that is not a universal solution and the review must confirm it. A forum that says “after two weeks” does not know your bridge.

Children at home, sport and work with a helmet or protective glasses are arranged separately. That is not the same rhythm as a desk frame.

What to arrange at the examination

At the consultation say if you live with glasses. That enters the recovery plan as much as work and travel. The calendar is not the same for every nose: piezo, a graft and revision change the pace.

While a frame must not sit on the nose, a desk rhythm can still start after the splint comes off — if you manage vision with lenses or a short period without correction. If that is not possible, agree the rhythm before the procedure, not in the corridor after waking.

May sunglasses come earlier?

No. They also sit on the bridge. Sun is handled with a hat and shade, not with a frame on a fresh nose.

What if I cannot wear lenses?

Say so at the examination. The rhythm of work and the procedure is then agreed in advance, not after the splint comes off.
