How long do bruising and swelling last after rhinoplasty?
Bruising around the eyes is not the rule for every nose. If it comes, it peaks around the third day and then fades. Facial swelling in the first week is expected; the tip stays firmer for weeks. Most swelling settles over the first three months, the rest by a year.
Bruising is not the same sign as swelling
A bruise is blood under the skin. Swelling is fluid in the tissue. Bruising, if it comes, is often seen around the eyes and cheeks, peaks around the third day and then turns from dark to yellow. Most of it is gone within the first ten to fourteen days. Some noses stay without a visible bruise — that is not a guarantee of a better result.
Swelling is more predictable. In the first week the face looks wider and heavier. When the splint comes off the nose is still puffy. That is an early shape, not the final one.
Which pain medicines you may take is said before the procedure. Aspirin and preparations that thin the blood are often paused — that is not advice from a forum, but part of the preparation.
The tip, thick skin and revision
The tip stays firmer for weeks because the skin and cartilage release fluid more slowly. Thick skin hides a change longer. Revision heals more slowly than a primary procedure. A graft changes the rhythm.
Most facial swelling settles over the first three months. Small details and the tip settle by a year. Whoever in the sixth week compares a photograph with the gallery compares swelling with someone else’s late nose.
A photograph on the seventh day documents an early nose. It is not proof of failure or of success. A comparison with someone else’s third month confuses.
What you may do, and what you may not
Cold as instructed, a raised head and rest help. Strain, bending, salt, alcohol and sun keep swelling. Glasses on a fresh bridge are not a help. Medicines that thin the blood enter the conversation before the procedure, not after the first bruise.
If swelling or colour suddenly increase, if one side is markedly different, or if breathing suddenly worsens, get in touch — that is not a question for a forum. Routine swelling and fading bruises wait for the review already in the calendar.
Piezo can leave a tidier early course on some noses, but that is not a rule and it does not erase tip swelling. The instrument does not set the calendar of bruising.

Is no bruising a better result?
It is not. A bruise speaks of blood under the skin, not of the quality of the plan. Some noses stay without it, others do not.
When is swelling no longer expected?
A sudden rise, one side markedly different, or suddenly harder breathing is not routine. That is reported, not left to a forum.
