How long does recovery take after rhinoplasty?
The splint usually stays for 7 to 12 days. Desk work often resumes after the splint is removed. Most swelling settles over the first three months; the final shape comes by a year, especially at the tip.
The first week and removing the splint
The outer splint, and inner packs when needed, usually stay 7 to 12 days. That is not the whole recovery. It is the period when the nose needs rest, cold as instructed, and not to be touched. Sleeping with the head raised helps swelling. Walking around the home may start early; strain, the gym and bending forward wait.
When the splint comes off the face is still swollen. That is not a sign that the procedure is finished. It is the first look at the shape. Bruising, if it came, is already fading. The tip stays firmer. Whoever then plans a large event or a close-up photograph is planning too early.
Packs, if they were placed, come out earlier than the splint or with it. Bleeding in the first days is possible; heavy bleeding is not routine and is reported. Medicines and sprays go only as instructed, not by advice from a group.
Work, strain and the first three months
Desk work often resumes after the splint is removed, if the job does not require strain or impact. Physical work, the gym, contact sport and heavy loads wait longer — often weeks to months, according to what was done. The review confirms the calendar, not a forum.
Most facial swelling settles over the first three months. Axis and profile become clearer. Small details and the tip still settle. Sun, salt and strain can keep swelling. Glasses must not sit on a freshly changed bridge.
Travel home the same day is possible if someone drives and the surgeon says early discharge is in order. A longer journey and a flight are not the first week. If you work in front of a camera or with clients, allow that other people's first impression will still follow you for some time after you return.
What recovery is not
Recovery is not a single date. It is a sequence: the first week, removing the splint, return to a desk, settling of swelling, the late shape. Revision heals more slowly. If a rib graft was taken, the pace is still more individual.
If after a year the shape or breathing still bothers you, the conversation goes towards an examination, not towards another comparison with someone else’s photograph. The first step then is still a consultation in Zagreb.

Why does revision heal longer?
