Preservation rhinoplasty

Keeping the bridge and the support of the nose, when the case allows it. It is not a mark of quality and is not suitable for every nose.

What is kept

In preservation rhinoplasty the bridge is not taken apart to be assembled from scratch. The bony-cartilaginous vault is moved and remodelled while the existing support is kept. The aim is to disturb less of what already breathes and stands — if it stands.

Structural rhinoplasty does the opposite: the deformity is opened, corrected and built again, often with grafts. That is not “the old school”. That is the plan when the bridge is not strong enough, is not symmetrical or has already been touched.

Keeping is not a smaller procedure. The vault is still moved. If the support does not stand, keeping is a worse choice than an open reconstruction. That is seen at the examination, not from a title on someone else’s page.

When it makes sense

A primary nose operation with orderly support, a moderate hump and skin that can follow the movement. A crooked nose, weak valves, thick skin or revision often pull a structural plan. That is seen on examination, not from the name you have read. Primary rhinoplasty · Revision rhinoplasty

An open or closed approach and piezo on the bone are separate questions. Piezo is an instrument. Preservation is a philosophy of work on the bridge. They can be combined, but neither replaces a plan. Piezo rhinoplasty

A high, asymmetrical or already touched hump often does not allow the vault to be kept. Then a structural plan is not a step backwards. It is a more honest path to a nose that breathes and stands.

At the examination you hear whether the bridge will be kept or built again — and why. The name “preservation” on someone else’s page does not decide your procedure. Anatomy decides.

Preservation or a structural plan

Preservation rhinoplasty in Zagreb makes sense when the support is orderly, the hump is moderate and the skin can follow the movement. Then the vault is lowered or moved without being taken apart.

A structural plan enters when the bridge does not stand: a high or asymmetrical hump, weak valves, thick skin that hides the tip, or a nose that has already been operated on. Grafts are then not decoration — they return what the tissue no longer carries.

An open or closed incision and piezo on the bone are separate questions. They can be combined with either philosophy. Neither replaces the decision whether the bridge will be kept. The cost outline follows the scope, not the name of the technique.

If you have read that preservation is “gentler” or “more modern”, that is catalogue language. Gentleness comes from not touching more than is needed. Sometimes that means keeping the vault. Sometimes it means taking it apart and assembling it again so that the nose breathes and stands.

What it does not promise

A shorter recovery, zero risk of revision, or a “more natural” nose by default. A natural outcome comes from the relation of the nose to the face, not from the marketing of a technique. If preservation is not in your interest, you will hear that at the examination.

Keeping the bridge does not guarantee fewer bruises or a faster return to work. The splint still stays 7 to 12 days. The final shape still comes over months. The calendar is the same frame as for other primary procedures — see recovery.

Preservation rhinoplasty is not a separate price list. If the examination shows that the bridge must be built again, the plan changes. The name of the technique does not hold the procedure if the anatomy does not stand.

Common questions

What is preservation rhinoplasty?

A technique that tries to keep the nasal dorsum and its support, instead of taking the dorsum apart and rebuilding it. It is not better by definition — it is suitable when anatomy allows.

Is preservation more modern than structural rhinoplasty?

It is newer in popular language; it is not a substitute for every nose. Marked asymmetry, weak support, revision and some humps still require structural work and grafts.

Is preservation rhinoplasty in Zagreb done open or closed?

Both are possible. The incision and the technique are not the same question. At the examination you are told what your dorsum will carry, not what the title of the procedure says.

Is there less swelling if the dorsum is preserved?

Not necessarily. Swelling, bruising and the pace of recovery depend on bone, skin and scope, not on the name of the technique. The calendar is the same frame as for other primary procedures.

Can preservation be combined with piezo?

It can. Piezo is an instrument for bone. Preservation is a decision whether the bridge will be kept. Neither replaces a plan. At the examination both are said, separately.

Is preservation done on a nose that has already been operated on?

Rarely. Revision often pulls a structural plan because the support is already disturbed. If the bridge can still be kept, that is seen on examination, not from a wish for a name.

How much does preservation rhinoplasty cost?

The name of the technique does not raise or lower the price list. The ranges are on the fees page. If the examination shows that the bridge must be built again, the plan changes, not the name.

Does preservation also keep breathing?

The aim is to disturb less of what already breathes — if it stands. If the valves are weak or the septum is crooked, keeping the bridge alone is not enough. Function is then planned in the same procedure, or a structural path is chosen.
